What is a Certified Balloon Artist(CBA)?

To answer the question we need to know what this certification is?    The definition comes from a professional balloon forum that is an excellent resource to many professionals.

Certified Balloon Artist (CBA) Certification Program

CBAs are people who work for a Qualatex Balloon Network (QBN) Business Member and have successfully completed the program’s written tests, as well as the CBA Practical Examination to demonstrate their knowledge of the QBN curriculum and ability to produce quality balloon work. By becoming a CBA, you will:

• Learn more skills and earn accreditation to use in promoting your balloon services and expanding your business,
• Enjoy a priority listing in the searchable “Find-A-Pro” directory on Qualatex.com, with the opportunity to link your listing to your Web site,
• Receive special CBA discounts on QBN Marketing Resources.

Who gives the certification?  Qualatex Balloon Company

Who is Qualatex Balloon Company?  Qualatex Balloon Company is one of the two balloon companies who sell balloons in the USA.  The second company is Betallatex and they do not have a certification program. 

How do you learn the certification material?  The program is a series of DVD’s that you complete in your home setting.  The exam is given off-site and includes hands-on and a written test.

Can you use another companies balloons if you are certified (CBA)?  When you take the CBA program you must promise to use Qualatex balloons whenever possible. 

If you are not certified, how did you learn your balloon business?  We have had many classes with balloon professionals from around the world.  Some of them are CBA’s but not all of them are.  Many of the classes include hands-on experience. On a yearly basis we have over 100 hours of classes.  

We love Betallatex balloons because of their vibrant colors and the quality of the balloons.  We do use some Qualatex balloons when we can not find the colors available in Betallatex like mocha brown.  We would really miss our beautiful colors from Betallatex if we had to switch to mostly Qualatex when we become a Certified Balloon Artist(CBA). 

After completing the dvd portions, should we become certified balloon artist(s)?

Last week, our balloon artists attended and taught at an international balloon artist convention!  It was a week full of entertaining classes, competitions, AND the latest designs in balloon art!  We taught several private classes on how to do some of our favorite creations to other balloon artists that were looking to learn, plus WE learned a lot of new balloon creations!

Tristen the Balloon Artist and My Time at Convention!

I spent one of my days working on a competition piece to be judged by the other balloon professionals in the industry!  It took a little under 7 hours and about 100 balloons that were inflated and uninflated!  Some of the balloons were even stuffed inside another balloon to make it stronger!  My day making that piece consisted of trying new techniques for the design and getting input from other top professionals to make my piece the best that it could be!  When it was all said and done, I had a fantastic piece titled “The Secret Garden!”

This was the finished piece of balloon art. I thought it was very neat! What do you think?

Rose the Balloon Artist and the convention!

She spent some a lot of her time networking with the top balloon pros!  She learned a great Thomas the Train which she then made it into a wristable(bracelet).  She is a mom, so she understands the value of making a balloon that moms don’t have to carry!

It is compliments of Rose that we have all of the photos from the week.  I am a bit lax about taking photos of all the cool things that we see, but she loves to take photos!  She took photos of all of the awesome balloon creations that we saw that week and the amazing balloon creations that were in the jam room(that’s where all the cool ideas come together from classes)!

Recently, Rose and I were looking to update our business wardrobe; complete with embroidered logo on our shirts. I just have to rave about this really cool small business in Berks county! They are a small business named “Keystone tees.” They are located at 1200 Roosevelt Street, Reading PA. The service is the one thing that I really want to rave about. We had a previous bad experience with another business, so this time we went to Keystone tees. They were so much better! As soon as we went in, we were greeted with a warm smile by Ellen who works at Keystone. She was a wonderful lady to work with and extremely helpful! I am so glad that there are small businesses out there that are willing to make your shopping experience fun and enjoyable. So, from one small business to another: Thank you!

It was interesting. Yesterday I was entertaining at Friendly’s restaurant in Hershey and was able to meet a lot of new people! Plus, there were a few familiar faces that I had seen at the restaurant before! I had the pleasure of meeting a young couple and the lady asked me to make her a yellow VW bug modeled after her own vehicle. Speaking of which, check out this cool photo of the finished result! Even though it was the first time I made it, I thought that it turned out nice!

We had a lot of fun talking and the gentleman asked me what my family thought about me being a professional balloon….artist? He wasn’t sure what my profession was. His girlfriend then lovingly corrected him. She said “No, Honey, she’s a balloon designer!”

Balloon designer: it has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? I think so. It always amazes me how most people don’t really know what to call balloon artists. Is it a balloon artist, a balloon twister, an entertainer? WHAT are we called? Well, from now on. Call me Tristen…a designer. Balloon designer.
